Multiple applications of slips and wood ash on C.S.P. clay fired to cone 8 have produced multicoloured pots.
Experimenting with the different textures and patterns of doilies by using a rolling pin, rolling the pattern onto clay slabs, and then forming the slabs into various sizes and shapes, Joan is turning a traditional women’s art into another art form — pottery resulting in some unique plates, bowls, and vases.
Joan has developed a Shawville Clay Glaze (deep yellow) which contains Shawville clay as a large part of the glaze formula used in her salamander pots, polka dot pots, and paisley pots.
